The title advokat (attorney-at-law) is protected by law (in contrast to, for example, jurist/lawyer).

There are certain requirements that must be met in order to become an advokat. As an advokat, you also follow ethical rules designed to guarantee the client the greatest possible level of security. The most central of these ethical rules are those that guarantee the lawyer’s independence, loyalty to the client, duty of confidentiality, and obligation to ensure that engagements are free from conflicts of interest.

As an advokat, you are subject to the supervision of the Swedish Bar Association. You are accountable to the Bar Association for ensuring that lawyers, associate lawyers, and other staff at the law firm comply with the ethical rules.
